Weekly newsletter: This one's untitled
Hey Everyone,
Some weeks I think I have nothing to say, then I start writing and a bunch of stuff comes out. This was one of those weeks. Here's what's on my mind:
1. I've been thinking about my grandmother a lot lately. Before she passed away, one of the last meaningful conversations that we had happened when she asked me why was I opening Studio No. 7. She said a restaurant and bar require that I'm there all the time and I like to go and I just need to find someone that likes to go too. It's significant to me now because I realize that it's the first time she's ever said anything about any of my decisions. I thought I'd found the magical answer when we became an event space, but now I'm realizing that she was simply right...I like to go.
2. I forgot to add last week that I took my mother to Donetto for Mother's Day. I feel a little bad about how much I loved it. Their brunch is amazing. Easily some of the best eggs I've had (yes, I'm that excited about theses eggs). My 17 year-old sister was there and frowned as soon as she saw the menu. She was willing to settle for the pancakes because she couldn't understand anything else on the menu. My strategy with her is always to order a few things and let her try it because that's the only way she'll have an open mind. She loved it all (There really wasn't anything too crazy, just strange words). I can't wait to go back for their dinner menu.
3. My other great eat recently was Talat Market. They've been popping up at Gato for a little over a year and I've been meaning to make my way over there since then. The concept is traditional Thai with local ingredients. I've heard nothing but great things and I'm glad to say that everything I heard was right. They're working on getting a brick and mortar and this is one restaurant that should definitely happen. (I love seeing people that should actually open restaurants instead of others that are just a bit delusional...I'm clearly talking about me). For up to date menus, check out their Instagram.
4. Fortunately for me (apparently not for you guys because so many people love the stories), there's been nothing new from any of my neighbors. Let's rejoice in silence.
5. I'm currently knee-deep in Atlanta Food and Wine. I said I wanted a challenge and I got it. I'm not used to not knowing how to do something. As an entrepreneur, I've gotten used to being the one creating the system (mainly as I go). If I don't have an answer, I create one. With this, it's not even that I don't know the answers, I don't even know the questions. I realize that it's a result of me doing this for the first time, yet I have real pangs of insecurity and inadequacy. Despite this, I'm really enjoying the work and the overall challenge. Two weeks to go.
Hope you guys have a great week!
