Vol. 6, No. 22 | Summer is Back
The days have really been running together. It feels like I left Florida a month ago, but it’s only been about four days. Here are the rest of my thoughts from the Great Florida Road Trip of 2021.
Ok. So I do like grouper! I went to a Cajun restaurant called Mudbugs on the last night in Sanibel. Their grouper was great. I don’t know what happened at the other places but I felt pretty relieved about this. Also, who knew mudbugs was a name for crawfish?
My best meal though ended up being at Sweet Melissa’s, the restaurant I mentioned last time. The food was phenomenal from beginning to end. A really focused menu, well-executed. I overheard the hostess mentioning that after Katrina the chef moved to Sanibel to restart. Poor thing was also living in New York during 9/11. Lesson: Keep going.
Besides Starbucks, my go-to stop on this trip was Chick Fil A. Kinda random, but I like their salads. They’re thoughtful and very well developed and I appreciate that from a fast food joint. I’d say they’re pretty much the only fast food place that has good salads. I tried their new Lemon Kale Caesar and was pretty hooked on it. The name is deceiving though. It’s mainly romaine lettuce with some bits of kale. Why lie Craig?
Kid’s menus are very weird to me. How is this even a thing? Why are the options always things like chicken nuggets, French fries, and some pizza-looking thing. (I mean kids’ menus at sit-down restaurants, not Chick Fil A, this is admittedly weird placement.) I’m concerned that we’re raising generation after generation of people with stunted palettes.
There’s this really great buzz in the air right now. Can you guys feel it? Maybe it’s just a summer after not having one. I can’t wait to be perched on all types of rooftop bars and patios.
Speaking of being perched somewhere. I joined Switchyards a few weeks ago (thanks Kat!) and I love it so much. Every city should have something like this. In general, I’m a sucker for great spaces. Add cool people to the mix and an orange peel in my cold brew and you’ve got me for life.
I read an interesting article the other day about the end of the “golden era of the Millenial Lifestyle Subsidy”. It’s pretty much about how millenials have been able to live like kings and queens from unsustainable tech models that gave us things like cheap car service, gourmet meal kits and luxury accommodations.
I got some really great news this week. I’m taking on a new role and I’m so excited to share it with you guys…next week! I know, I know. Teehee.
Hope you’re all well!
